Sticking it to Safety

I have been living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for the last three years now. If you have ever seen anything regarding Ho Chi Minh City, whether it’s a travel TV show, some photographs or a video on YouTube, they probably at some point involved motorbikes.

Motorbikes, scooters, mopeds. These machines drive this city. And I drive one of these machines.

With a population of around ten million people, Ho Chi Minh City has around five to six million motorbikes zooming through its streets day-to-day.

If you live here, you drive here. It’s freeing. it opens the city up for exploration and, for me at least, it’s fun.

Generally, there aren’t many rules here, or they are at least pretty flexible.

So with all these millions of bikes rushing around, people breaking lights, driving the wrong way and driving at night with no headlights into on-coming traffic, it’s important to have a good helmet.

Over the years I’ve had a few, the last two ended up stolen and until today I had been using a crappy supermarket one. But earlier this morning a package arrived for me from San Francisco. And so I knew it was time to get a proper helmet again.

A few weeks ago I came across Shoot Film Co’s website, selling film photography stickers.

As soon as I saw some I knew that I was going to end up buying a few and putting them on my new helmet, whenever I decided to get it.

They were priced reasonably, including shipping to Vietnam it was maybe $12-$14 for the four stickers I ordered.

And I couldn’t be happier with them.

These are not the stickers you get free with a box of cereal or anything else. They feel high quality and they look great. They are also a lot bigger than I was expecting which was great.

So once I got home from the helmet store, the fantastic Viet Full Face on Vo Van Tan St, District 3, I got to sticking.

They also came with a little handwritten thank you note from Mike the owner which was nice.

So if you’re ever looking for some stickers (or patches for your camera bags) check them out.
